Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery is a branch of surgery working out methods of diagnosis and operative treatment of nervous system damages and diseases. Neurosurgery is linked to neurophysiology, radiology and other branches of clinical medicine and uses their methods of research, foremost radiological (including computed tomography, radionuclide, ultrasonic, etс.). Achievements of microsurgery play a significant role in neurosurgical development.

The stereotactic method allows to influence deeply situated structures and different points of bran with minimal damage of other parts. Introduction of this method contributes to the creating of a new branch of neurosurgery, called stereotactic surgery.

The help of neuroradiologists, the usage of computed tomography, nuclear resonance and spiral tomography allow high-qualified surgeons of Swiss medical centers and clinics to carry out operations of all the branches of neurosurgery:

  • Physiological neurosurgery: treatment of tolerant pain such as trigeminal neuralgia and associated oncological diseases; Parkinson\'s disease treatment.
  • Endocrinological neurosurgery: treatment of hypophysis tumors.
  • General neurosurgery: microneurosurgical treatment of malignant brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, vascular disorders, bleeding in brain tissues; surgery if spinal cord and intarvertebral cartilages are dislocated.

Gamma-knife is a radiological precision instrument used for non-invasional treatment of the brain. Gamma-knife is the most modern technique to treat brain tumors.
